One-on-one

Individual Therapy

A space that belongs entirely to you — no agenda, no timeline, no pressure to have it figured out.

Adults
  • First session is a conversation — no need to have it figured out beforehand
  • Sessions follow your lead, at your pace and on your terms
  • Anxiety, grief, burnout, relationships, life changes — or just something that doesn’t feel right yet
Children (under 16)
  • Age-appropriate — conversation, activity-based, or a mix
  • Parent or guardian intake comes first; parents stay involved throughout
  • Both parents are welcome at the initial intake session
Adult sessions

Your first session is mostly a conversation. I get to know you — what’s brought you here, what feels heavy, and what you’re hoping might shift. You don’t need to have it figured out before you arrive. In fact, most people find the first session helps them work out what they actually want to focus on.

From there, sessions follow your lead. Some people are working through something specific: anxiety, grief, burnout, relationship stress, a big life change. Others come because something just isn’t right and they can’t quite name it yet. Both are completely valid starting points.

Children’s sessions

I use age-appropriate approaches — some conversational, some more activity-based, depending on the child and what they need. The goal is always to create a space where they feel at ease and engaged, not studied or managed.

Parents and guardians are an important part of the process. An initial intake session with you comes first — to understand the background, share what you’ve observed, and shape how the sessions will run. Both parents are welcome to come together for the intake.

Together

Couple or Family Therapy

When something feels stuck between you — having someone outside it can help you hear each other differently.

  • Each person gets space to share their perspective first — not to argue, but so I understand the full picture
  • Work is collaborative: communication, distance, or simply building something stronger
  • Doesn’t require a crisis — some couples and families come simply because they want to
  • A brief individual intake session with each person comes before joint sessions begin

Sessions usually begin with each person having the chance to share their perspective — not to argue the case, but so I can understand the full picture. From there the work becomes collaborative: practising different ways of communicating, working through something that’s caused distance, or simply building something stronger between you.

This works for romantic partners, co-parents, adult children and their parents, siblings, or any close relationship that could use some support. You don’t need to be in crisis — some couples and families come simply because they want to.

Medicare and NDIS are not available for couple or family sessions. Private, QFES, and ADFHSC & DVA funding applies.

Facilitated resolution

Professional Mediation

Not every dispute needs a courtroom — sometimes it just needs a skilled, neutral person in the room.

  • Structured and confidential — I facilitate, you reach the outcome together
  • Less costly and adversarial than formal proceedings
  • Works best when both parties genuinely want resolution
  • Individual intake session with each party comes first

Mediation is a structured, confidential process. I facilitate dialogue between two parties to help them reach a workable agreement — without the cost, stress, or adversarial nature of formal proceedings. The outcome isn’t decided by me; it’s reached by you, with my help.

It works best when both parties genuinely want resolution — not necessarily to agree on everything, but to reach something both can move forward from. An individual intake session with each party comes first.

Medicare and NDIS are not available for mediation. Private, QFES, and ADFHSC & DVA funding applies.
Funding options

How do you plan to access sessions?

There’s more than one way to access sessions with me. The right path depends on your situation — most people fall into one of the two main options below.

Paying privately

$195 / session

No referral needed — just book directly and pay on the day.

  • Tax invoice issued immediately; private health extras may partially rebate
  • Straightforward — no GP visit, no waiting on paperwork
  • Available for all session types

Found Cheree on your own and want to get started without a GP visit? This is the most direct path.

Medicare

~$107 out of pocket

See your GP first — a Mental Health Care Plan unlocks a Medicare rebate of $87.25 per session.

  • Ask your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan naming Cheree McGarry, AMHSW
  • Up to 10 sessions per calendar year; GP review after the first 6
  • Individual and child therapy only

Already spoken to your GP, or want to reduce the cost of ongoing sessions? This is the most common funded path.

Other funding pathways
NDIS — self or plan-managed
Self or plan-managed

If counselling is in your NDIS plan, you may be able to use your funding. Self-managed: pay $195 on the day and claim reimbursement. Plan-managed: invoiced directly to your plan manager at the NDIS rate. Confirm counselling is in your funded supports before booking. Individual and child therapy only.

QFES Employee Assistance
Covered by QFES

Queensland Fire & Emergency Services employees can access sessions at no cost through the EAP. Contact your EAP coordinator to confirm your entitlement and arrange a referral before booking. All session types may be covered.

ADFHSC & DVA
Covered by funder

Current and former ADF members, their families, and DVA card holders may be eligible for funded sessions billed directly to ADFHSC or DVA. Contact your unit health officer, Medical Officer, or DVA case manager to arrange a referral before booking.
